Summary Of The Book The Four Agreements

That`s how everyone puts on a mask and starts living in a dream. We believe in all these things and we live by all these rules that we have never stopped thinking about. Don Miguel calls all these beliefs and rules « agreements, » because we for these beliefs and rules were part of our AGREE dream. (But of course, the kids always agree, so it`s not your fault.) Thank you, Danyal. It is becoming more and more difficult to summarize books like The Four Agreements. I read and read The Power of Now several times and thought about how I was going to do it in a summary. In this book, Don Miguel says that the outside world has a considerable influence on the way we live our lives. Don Miguel calls it domestication. Domestication is generally not very positive.

Instead, it pushes us to be afraid and to judge. Because we are punished and rewarded for evil deeds if we obey the outside world, we are obsessed with rewards. It`s not good for us because it teaches us to follow good deeds to get rewards. We should take good steps for the action itself. The punishment of non-obedience gives us the impression that we are not good enough. On this basis, Don Miguel thinks that our greatest fear in life is not death. Instead, our biggest fear is who we really are. To be really happy, we have to break free from our chains.

This path begins with the four agreements. These are new ways of life that you can voluntarily follow. These agreements are: it reminds me of a Buddhist idea. A Vietnamese Buddhist professor named Thich Nhat Hanh says we all have a memory consciousness, a place from which seeds form in our daily thoughts. These seeds can be healthy or harmful. So we need to feed the seeds healthy so that they stay in our minds longer. We must also bring back harmful seeds (such as anger, ignorance and greed) into our camp consciousness. If you want to learn more about these great Buddhist ideas, read our summary of Thich Nhat Hanh`s The Heart of the Buddha`s Teachings. If you do your best means working hard because you love the task, your work will begin to feel effortless. Thus, the final agreement – always doing your best – will increase the power of all other chords and help you free yourself. In 2001, the book was published in « O » The Oprah Magazine, where the author interviewed comedian and television presenter Ellen Degeneres about the book. The book was also featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2001 and on the television show Super Soul Sunday in 2013.

The book has spent more than 2 years on Publisher`s Weekly`s bestseller list and has spent more than a decade on the New York Times bestseller list. [1] Why not try to break one of the hundreds or thousands of agreements you have? Maybe you`re thinking you`re not good at painting — break the watercolors and have fun creating something.
