Exchange of letters of 30 March and 19 April 1977, as amended by the Exchange of Letters of 8 November 1989 and 10 January 1990 concerning the waiving of reimbursement of the costs of benefits in kind, administrative checks and medical examinations The main elements of the draft agreement are as follows: Framework agreements concluded after the transitional period in accordance with a procedure falling within point (a) of this paragraph. Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, the Kingdom of Norway and, where applicable, the Swiss Confederation have concluded and apply similar agreements with the United Kingdom, which apply to Citizens of the Union; and the EU and the UK have reached an agreement on the Withdrawal Agreement, with a revised protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland (removal of the backstop) and a revised political declaration. On the same day, the European Council (Article 50) approved these texts. The United Kingdom left the European Union (EU) on 31 January 2020. A transitional period now applies until 31 December 2020. During this period, the UK must comply with all EU rules and laws. For businesses and the public, virtually nothing will change. After the transition period, there will be changes, whether or not an agreement is reached on the new relationship between the UK and the EU. 4. Notwithstanding paragraph 3, the United Kingdom may negotiate, sign and ratify, during the transitional period, international agreements concluded in its own capacity in areas falling within the exclusive competence of the Union, unless such agreements enter into force or apply during the transitional period, unless the Union has approved it. The British Parliament passes a law obliging the British government to request a postponement of Brexit if there is no agreement with the EU before 19 October 2019. 6. The border between the Eastern Sovereign Control Area and the territories of the Republic of Cyprus in which the Government of the Republic of Cyprus does not exercise effective control shall be considered to be part of the external borders of the territorial areas for the purposes of this Article for the duration of the suspension of the application of the acquis in accordance with Article 1 of Protocol No 10.
This limit can only be crossed at the border crossing points of Strovilia and De Pergamon. With the prior agreement and in cooperation with the authorities of the United Kingdom, the Republic of Cyprus may take further measures to combat illegal immigration of persons who have crossed this border. This triggered Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union, which sets out the procedure for a member state`s exit from the Union and introduces a two-year countdown to withdrawal. Such an agreement may be concluded by any means of communication. The Declaration on the Future Relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom, also known as the Political Declaration, is a non-binding declaration that was negotiated and signed at the same time as the binding and more comprehensive Withdrawal Agreement in the context of the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (EU), commonly known as Brexit, and the expected end of the transition period. . . .
