Go through agreements with the team and combine similar agreements into a single agreement. Work agreements describe positive behaviors that are fundamental, but are often not automatically demonstrated in team processes. For example, an agreement could be, « We all agree to participate fully. » Agreements are the driving force behind the group. Elements of the work agreement must be published publicly so that they can be easily searched throughout the team process. Look often and remember that agreements can always be renegotiated, especially when new members join or situations change. Each new team has a distinct dynamic, with individuals who prefer a certain mix of behaviors and practices. Respect your uniqueness! A work agreement is a short set of guidelines created by the team for the team that determine the team`s expectations of each other. A well-written agreement should help establish and strengthen a clear and shared understanding among all team members of what they recognize as good behavior and communication. It is usually referred to as a single « work arrangement », but in reality it consists of many individual agreements for each subject or problem. First, set the context for working arrangements with your team. As a group, you can use whiteboards (physical or numeric), sticky notes, spreadsheets, or flip charts.
As with any setting, it`s important to tailor it to your own needs and culture. When introducing work arrangements into your team, consider the most appropriate approach. Publish your working conditions in an area visible to the entire team, such as Confluence. If you used sticky notes, translate the final work arrangements into a document and share it. I do not think that these agreements are necessary in all cases, but you might find them useful if you fit one of these scenarios: many other things have also been done. For example, meeting minutes and ways to improve our feedback process and how everyone is struggling with OKRs and what we could do to make that process a little easier. And we found that we didn`t have each other`s phone numbers, which was interesting. One day, all of Chad`s communication came back and he realized he couldn`t let anyone on the team know because he had no way to communicate with us.
He didn`t know our phone numbers. It`s not something that`s ever appeared before, but it just showed that it would be a good thing to have it. .
